Dream Desserts

I should have known when my son was swiping three…four…five samples off of the Dream Dessert Bars table at the farmers market that they were going to be good.  But I was wrong.  They weren’t good… they are great!

It all started back in 2007, when co-founder of Dream Dessert Bars, Marissa Hayes, was diagnosed with Celiac disease.   For this Italian, with a huge sweet tooth, the news was devastating.  Brian, Marissa’s husband and co-founder, stepped in and started buying every gluten free product he could get his hands on.  With a sweet tooth himself, there was a definite emphasis on finding good gluten-free desserts.  But nothing they tried was remotely edible.

That’s when Marissa’s mother and home cook, Kathy, took to the kitchen and started trying to modify her daughter’s favorite desserts.  It was a fateful summer’s eve when Kathy brought out a plate of her (gluten free) lemon bars for everyone to sample.   Marissa and Brian were shocked.  Not only were the bars gluten-free, but they were so decadently delicious you would have never known.  Recognizing the greatness of what they were now devouring, the couple knew they had to share these bars with the rest of the gluten-free community.  And that night, Dream Dessert Bars was born.

Dream Dessert Bars offers three classic flavors:  Luscious Lemon, Peanut Butter Chocolát, and Pecan Clasique.  Marissa and Brian graciously gave me a sample of each bar.  I brought them home for the family to try, and they were all devoured within a matter of minutes.

But the sweetness doesn’t stop there.  DDB just released three new fall flavors:  The Great Pumpkin Roll, Cranberry Pecan Delight, and Cheesecake Brownie with Butterscotch Drizzle.

You can find Dream Dessert Bars at the New Canaan and Stamford Farmers Markets, and at various shops throughoutFairfieldCounty.  For a complete list, visit the DDB website.  They are also available nationwide on Foodzie.
