Our veins pulse with blood that contains all 100 minerals and trace elements in nearly the same composition as sea water. So it makes sense that, for thousands of years, people have been turning to the sea for ways to help prolong life, prevent disease, and impart beauty and health. Here’s why…
Sea plants contain 10-20 times the mineral content as land plants (and the broadest range of minerals of any living organism) along with other vitamins, amino acids and nutritive elements that are in an easily assimilable form.
Seaweeds are a particularly rich source of calcium and iron, iodine and elemental fluoride. Iodine is a mineral that is essential for proper thyroid function. The thyroid reigns over digestion and metabolism so a deficiency in iodine could result in low energy, weight gain, an inability to properly metabolize foods, and the infamous goiter.
You can’t brush your teeth with seaweed, but the fluorine in it will help strengthen your teeth and bones as well as boost your immunity. Be careful though as cooking seaweed will destroy the fluorine- it must be eaten raw/fresh to reap these benefits.
Seaweeds are also known for their detoxification properties. Just like they cleanse the ocean, they cleanse our body by transforming environmental toxins and heavy metals into harmless salts which our body can easily excrete.
Sea plants also help lower blood cholesterol, alkalize the body, maintain healthy skin and hair, and have antibiotic properties.
